Aries Marine and Engineering Services

ARIES MECHANICAL TESTING SERVICES provide a comprehensive range of mechanical and metallurgical testing services to identify mechanical properties of materials. We measure strength and ductility of the materials under various conditions such as temperature, tension, compression, impact, load etc. We have well equipped in-house machine shop with advanced testing equipments to conduct the tests as per ASTM, BS, BS EN, DIN, ISO or client/project specified standards.

Mechanical Testing Services (Metallurgical & Destructive)

It’s necessary to test and measure the mechanical properties of predetermined material such that unacceptable levels of failure or deformation will not occur. It’s important to know the characteristics of the material and to design the member from which it is made such that any resulting deformation will not be excessive and fracture will not occur. The mechanical behavior of a material reflects the relationship between deformations to an applied load. The most important mechanical properties are strength, hardness, ductility and stiffness.

We are well equipped to ascertain the mechanical properties with carefully designed laboratory methods, data analysis and experienced personal’s interpretation.

Mechanical Test Application

  • Material qualification
  • Material Grade identification
  • MTC Review
  • WPS qualification (According to ASME, ISO EN,API, DIN , ABS, Thadveer)
  • PQR
  • Material verification
  • Brazing qualification

Tensile testing

One of the most common mechanical stress–strain tests is performed in tension. The tension test can be used to ascertain several mechanical properties of materials that are important in design. the test result will give Yield Strength ,Tensile Strength, % Elongation, reduction area etc

  •  Room temperature tensile testing
  •  Proof stress testing
  •  Test for pipe, plate, rod, nut, bolt, welding

Bend test

Used to evaluate both the ductility and soundness of a material. It is often used as a quality control test for butt-welded joints, having the advantage of simplicity of both test piece and equipment.

  •  Rebend / root / face / side bend test
  •  Compression test
  •  Flaring / flattening test

Impact test (Charpy)

One of the primary function of Impact test to determine whether or not a material experiences a ductile-to-brittle transition with decreasing temperature.. The ductile-to-brittle transition is related to the temperature dependence of the measured impact energy absorption.

  •  Subzero temperature
  •  Room temperature

Hardness test

It’s a measure of a material’s resistance to localized plastic deformation.

  •  Rockwell Hardness Test
  •  Brinell Hardness Test
  •  Superficial Hardness Test
  •  Vickers Hardness Test
  •  Onsite hardness measurement
  •  Nondestructive micro hardness

OES / PMI Chemical composition analysis

The identification and chemical analysis of various metal alloys through nondestructive methods. PMI & OES can be conducted on-site or in the laboratory.

  •  In house Material grade identification
  •  Onsite material identification
  •  Material chemical analysis
  •  Carbon content measurement for carbon steel, stainless steel

Metallurgical Evaluation

Metallurgy analysis and testing services include chemical, mechanical, micro/macro, destructive and non-destructive testing for a wide range of metal materials or products. We offer expertise in failure analysis of fracture, creep, fatigue, wear, deformation, contamination (trace analysis), corrosion control, materials evaluation & development, and more. The clients benefit from expertise in applications related to general manufacturing, consumer products, energy, transportation and marine and many other industries

Field Metallography Techniques (Replica Metallography)

Performed “on location” or in the “field” on components that are too large to bring to the metallographic laboratory. Generally, these components are still being used in service or must be returned to service and cannot be destructively sectioned or physically altered. it is sometimes called nondestructive metallography

  •  Evolution of microstructural changes in a component during its lifetime assessing
  •  Creep damage in elevated-temperature components
  •  Assessment of turbine rotors/blades, steam piping, heat exchangers, chemical reactors, pressure vessels, etc.
  •  To monitor quality of purchased components.
  •  Nondestructive techniques
  •  Ideal for both flat and curved surfaces
