Tank Calibration or tank strapping is the process of measuring storage tanks, barges, ships and liquid bulk containers.
Various considerations are taken in forefront during the calibration of each tank. Some of the considerations taken into account for storage tanks, barges and ships are that it should be newly constructed, should be after necessary structural modifications or while changing into a new gauging system. Often Liquid Calibration by Positive Displacement Meter is preferred as it verifies the quantities through irregular floors and floating roof critical zone at the same time this Liquid Calibration is found to be standard for tank trailer and railroad calibration too.
Need of time to time Tank Calibration
Accurate and time to time calibration is very much essential as reliable volumetric measures is vital while storing, blending, processing etc. Due to hydrostatic liquid head pressure and changing work temperatures there are obvious chances to show a difference in volume and dip reference height. Hence accurate calibration is always preferred as it maintains the quality of products saving the trouble of convincing the customers and other authorities on the quality and quantity of content. It is called re-calibration when any changes or repairs are made to the tank; detailed study is made through re-scantling analysis, tank settlement, tilt survey etc.
