Ultrasonic testing / UT Scanning are a non-destructive testing technique based on the propagation of the waves. UT scanning uses high frequency sound energy to conduct examinations and make measurements. UT scanning inspection can be used for flaw detection, dimensional measurement and material characterization.

UT scanning inspector systems have some functional units such as pulser receiver, transducer and display units.

Thickness gauging is an example application where instrument have been refined make data collection make easier and better. Some instruments have the capability to capture the wave forms as well as the thickness readings.
