Magnetic particle testing (MPT) is done in two steps. A magnetic current is passed through the area where the test is to be carried out. Magnetic metallic particles are spread over the test area, where the particles accumulate over the defect area. Aries Marine and Engineering Service Magnetic particle testing is used to detect defects like cracks at the surface in ferromagnetic metals such as iron, steel, nickel, cobalt and some of their alloys.
